Methodology

How we research hot springs.

Our Editorial Philosophy

The right spring depends on the season, your vehicle, how far you want to hike and whether you want a developed pool or a primitive soak. We compare options using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.

How We Rank Options

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Trip fit

Match the traveler, timing and the decision the guide addresses.

  2. 2

    Access

Check how a spring is reached, including road type, hike distance and seasonal closures, as stated by the land manager or operator.

  3. 3

    Season and availability

Distinguish announced plans from current live availability.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits
  • ✗Unverified guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Tourism offices and operators

Official descriptions, seasonal announcements and products

  2. 2. Service providers

Direct descriptions of services and booking terms

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published context with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the operator page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
